The career planning decisions I'm about to take will affect my working life for years ahead. How can I make sure my career plan's a good one?

Why career plan? The well organised few use rigorous career planning to achieve career goals and personal ambitions (they’re notably successful even when there aren’t many jobs around). For the rest of us, career planning usually isn’t done until we hit a crisis and need a career coach’s input to get us out of it.
Whether you want a career coach’s advice to get you out of a crisis (eg to put your career back on track when a job move goes wrong) or to construct a flexible, realistic career plan for achieving your medium term career goals, we’ll work with you to identify the full range of your options, evaluate which choice is most likely to meet your needs and plan how you get where you want to be on the career ladder. Career plans take into account any wider issues of concern to you – for example, achieving a better work-life balance is a key career planning issue for many clients (especially for those with children or dependent relatives).
Your career planning involves a really thorough review of you, your career to date and your personal situation. Your career coach will help you determine your career-related strengths, what types of job / role suit you best , what level on the career ladder you should be aiming for and how you want ”work” and the rest of your life to fit together.
Your career plan will also include psychometric assessment of your personality, abilities and job interests, together with the career coach’s analysis of the implications these have for you in planning career development within today’s rapidly changing workplace.
As relatively few of us plan careers or contact a career coach until we’re aged 28 – 50 plus years, each individual brings to their career planning appointment a unique package of skill sets, qualifications and work experience. Your career coach has plenty of experience in developing career plans for career changers to maximise the benefit they gain from their earlier work history and qualifications. In many instances, good career planning will help you change career without doing any full-time retraining courses or taking a drop in seniority.
Your detailed career planning report is individually written, covering each topic of special concern to you (eg would self-employment suit you? Should you change your career path - or just your employer?).
Saturday afternoon career planning appointments are available.
Some employers provide time off during the working week and /or fund the career planning /career coach input. They see this career planning programme as a useful adjunct to their own management development and succession planning programmes.
